Apartments for the Elderly, Handicapped, and Disabled

The Odd Fellow Heritage Apartments are housing for elderly, handicapped, and disabled households. They are owned by Odd Fellow-Rebekah Housing, Inc and are affiliated with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F.).

In 17th century England, it was odd to find people organized for the purpose of giving aid to those in need and of pursuing projects for the good of all mankind. Those who belonged to such a group were called "Odd Fellows."

The Odd Fellows are known as the "Three Link Fraternity" which stands for Friendship, Love, and Truth. It is the model by which the apartments operate. It is not necessary to be affiliated with the Odd Fellows in order to be considered for an apartment.

The apartments are single-bedroom units and are all on the ground floor. There is a vestibule with a security door which allows entry into a common area known as the Lobby. In Illiopolis, all apartments are accessed via a hallway. In Buffalo and Williamsville, four apartments are accessed via the Lobby and the rest are accessed via the hallway.

The Illiopolis facility has four apartments, while Buffalo and Williamsville have 26 units each. There are two buildings in each of these two locations; the "A" Building, which has 12 apartments and the "B" Building, which has 14 units.

Kitchens are furnished with appliances; a range and a refrigerator / freezer. The sink is a 33" X 22" stainless steel double bowl. Wall cabinets and base cabinets, with ample space in them, line the length of both sides of the kitchen.

The bath is equipped with a 5' tub / shower with a removable hand-sprayer attachment. A vanity with a cultured marble top and a water closet round out the furnishings in the bath.

Bedrooms have a large closet, and are heated by a baseboard electric heater. The living room has individually controlled baseboard heat and air-conditioning. The foyer has three closets, including a six-shelf linen closet.

Each apartment is fitted with a smoke alarm, which is checked regularly. Each apartment also has two additional alarms that are activated by pull cords, sounding a local alarm in case of an emergency.

All areas within the building are secure, and can only be entered with a proper door key or security code. Each apartment has a security door which locks from the inside. Fire and police departments have master keys for entry in emergencies.

Mail service is available in Buffalo and Williamsville via carrier delivery. A lock box for each apartment is located in the vestibule. Telephone jacks are located in the kitchen and bedroom, and additional jacks may be installed if needed.

Laundry facilities are located in each building. For those who prefer to line dry, clotheslines are located behind every building. Water, sewer, and trash collection are performed on a regular basis.

Residents have the option of cable TV and the outlets are located in the bedroom and living room of each apartment. All apartments are 100% electric, and while the electric bill is the responsibility of the resident, a utility allowance is given to each resident.

Vehicle parking is available adjacent to each building. Parking spaces nearest to the building is reserved for residents and is unassigned. Each building has access for walkers, wheelchairs, and motorized scooters.

All routine maintenance is handled by the in-house staff. Nearly all maintenance tasks can be handled without the need for outside repair personnel and the inconvenience that accompanies them.

All buildings are surrounded by spacious grounds for any number of outdoor activities. There are many scheduled activities during the year. Most surround holidays, and participation is elective. The big events are the Thanksgiving and Christmas parties held in Buffalo each year. Families are encouraged to attend these functions.

Meals are of the potluck variety with the apartment's staff furnishing and preparing the meat and potato dishes. While there are a good many planned events, the most popular gatherings are the impromptu gatherings in the Lobby for just about any occasion.

We are proud of the accommodations and amenities we're able to offer. If you have any questions, we hope you'll call us. We'll be most happy to sit down with you and discuss any needs you have. Someday soon, we hope to be able to tell you, "Welcome home!"
